We have always realized that an ecological sustainable way of life needs more than just a few people. The more people you have, the more needs you can meet inside the community. With too few people you need to bring in more from outside. That means dependence on our society’s destructive way of providing these things. Only by creating an EcoGay village can we work on true sustainability.
The tragedy we observe these days is that there seem to be 3 groups of people. Only one group manages to connect to each other enough to start an ecovillage. The first group is the biggest: people who want to do something, start a new eco friendly life, but they cannot do it. Something is missing for them, no capital, no real plan, no land, no courage, you name it. Then there is a group that manages to overcome their difficulties and they make a start, they get land, dig into it and start to create their paradise. Then they discover they cannot really do it right without more people. You would think these two groups would connect and make everyone happy. In reality this barely seems to happen.
Then there are some groups that do manage to come together. These groups are mostly centered around a religion or other spiritual beliefs. That means they have a strong enough connecting view on life, strong enough to not let fears and doubt stand in their way. The people of the first two groups doubt if they can trust each other enough to even consider making the jump.
At EcoGay we don’t center around a religion, but instead around a deep need we all have to be ourselves. A desire to find love without having to be careful who to approach. Nature doesn’t care about us being gay. It’s great to be amongst friends without feeling different. Nobody needs to hold back on deeper feelings when surrounded by other gay men and even better, they all share your interest in living in nature. We get to also work on developing a better way of living, which is what all of mankind will have to do at some point.
Still it takes a village. It also takes courage, especially at the early stages of developing EcoGay. We’re looking for gay men of all ages, who see the importance of sharing what they can to make our world a better place. Shared ideas, effort, care and love.
